Client: Tharaldson Property Management, Fargo ND Type of Property: Hotels – Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn, Springfield, IL Summary: These four Hotels under Tharaldson Property Management sustained substantial damage from a pair of F2 tornadoes that hit Springfield, IL on March 12th, 2006.  These storms took all four hotels out of business causing loss of revenue and serious business interruption. Date of Incident: March 12th, 2006 Incident/Extent of Damage: On March 12th, 2006 at 8:20 PM a pair of F2 tornadoes ripped through the Springfield, IL area causing moderate to severe damage to several homes and businesses.  These storms tracked for 5.5 miles on a Northeast trek with winds of 120 mph and were nearly ½ mile wide. Universal Restoration Services Solution: Our Teams responded to the site immediately after the tornadoes hit the hotels on March 12th 2006.  Within hours we were able to bring in generators and have temporary power restored to the Courtyard and Sleep Inn.  Our teams started immediate debris removal, tarping and interior cleaning of all serviceable rooms.  We were granted 60% occupancy by the Fire Marshall’s office of these two properties within six days after the tornadoes limiting business interruption and loss of revenue.  Both the Courtyard and Sleep Inn were re roofed within eight days, completely reconstructed in sixty days and at 100% capacity. Universal Restoration Services was then tasked on May 12th 2006 to restore the Comfort Inn and Fairfield Inn hotel properties by September 30th 2006.  Our company was able to completely rebuild and restore these properties, along with certificates of occupancy, three days prior to the deadline Completion Date: September 27th 2006 Client Benefit: By securing Universal Restoration Services Tharaldson was able to minimize business interruption and loss of revenue on all four hotels.  Tharaldson was also able to execute the sale of the Comfort Inn and Fairfield Inn, which were under contract with an investment firm when the damage occurred.  Universal Restoration Services has rebuilt five properties and torn down one for Tharaldson dating back to 2001.  Universal Restoration Services is Tharaldson’s contractor of choice.
